Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the Nominations for the Gala de l'ADISQ

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 9, 2014) - I would like to applaud the nominees for this year's Gala de l'Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la video (ADISQ) and the many professionals involved in creating diverse high-quality Francophone music content and promoting it to music lovers in Canada and around the world.

Montréal will be the host to amazing talent on Sunday, October 26, and I encourage all Canadians to tune in to this exciting celebration.

Our Government recognizes that music contributes to the vitality of our cultural life and is an important sector of our economy. The Canadian music industry generates nearly $3 billion annually in economic activity. In Budget 2014, we permanently renewed all funding for Canadian music through the Canada Music Fund. Each year on average, the $24.6-million Fund supports the production of more than 400 albums and 1,100 marketing, touring and music showcase projects.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend the work of ADISQ and congratulate our talented music artists and creators, whose achievements and dedication are a source of pride and inspiration.
