Avago Advanced SAS Storage Technology Powers Over 250 Next-Generation Server Models Using Latest Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processors

The World's Leading Server Manufacturers Select Avago Advanced 12Gb/s SAS and Intelligent MegaRAID Solutions for Technology Innovation That Delivers Proven Data Center Connectivity and Data Protection

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM: Avago Technologies (Nasdaq:AVGO) today announced its advanced lineup of 12Gb/s SAS storage solutions has been chosen to power more than 250 new server models based on the recently announced Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 v3 product family. Leading server manufacturers have selected Avago 12Gb/s SAS and MegaRAID® solutions to provide the field-proven technology demanded by next-generation server platforms that run data-intensive applications.

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family, featuring the Intel C610 series chipset, delivers greatly reduced power consumption while at the same time providing increased performance. Avago's innovative 12Gb/s SAS technology doubles storage I/O bandwidth, unlocks the performance potential of the latest flash-based systems, and uniquely enables systems to take advantage of 12Gb/s speeds regardless of whether 6Gb/s or 12Gb/s SAS drives are deployed.

"Increasing performance and efficiency while driving down costs are the focus for IT organizations tasked with managing the tremendous storage growth in datacenters and cloud environments," said Al Diaz, vice president and general manager, Product Collaboration and Systems Division, Intel Corporation. "The new Intel Xeon processor E5-2600 v3 product family-based platforms and Avago 12Gb/s SAS technology deliver a strong combination of data protection and performance for managing the data-intensive requirements of next-generation server systems."

"As the worldwide leader in SAS connectivity and data protection, Avago 12Gb/s SAS solutions are enjoying wide adoption at a critical time as storage bandwidth performance has doubled to meet the increasing storage demands of enterprise and cloud service providers," said Tom Swinford, senior vice president and general manager, Data Center Solutions Group, Avago. "Avago is proud to have worked closely with Intel and its customers to support its new Xeon E5-2600 v3 product family and help optimize our proven SAS solutions on this latest Intel platform."

Avago has shipped nearly 50 million SAS integrated circuit (IC) products, 10 million SAS storage HBA and RAID adapters, and over 10 million SAS RAID stacks since the inception of SAS. Avago continues to deliver a leading portfolio of products including SAS RAID on Chip (ROC), controller and expander ICs, HBAs, MegaRAID controllers and 12Gb/s SAS switches. By offering leading SAS technologies, assured interoperability, and single-vendor support, Avago SAS solutions have been selected and deployed across the industry's broadest spectrum of server platforms.

At IDF this week, Avago is demonstrating its 12Gb/s SAS solutions in performance configurations with a range of ecosystem partners. Additional demonstrations will highlight the benefits of shared DAS and high availability. Visit Avago booth #454 for a live Storage by LSI demonstration.

Avago is also demonstrating a key feature of its PCI Express-based ExpressFabric® initiative – the sharing of multiple endpoints among CPUs. Avago Express Switching by PLX is demonstrating the enabling of shared I/O without any changes to the vendor-released standard SR-IOV drivers – a technology that is new and a first in the industry.
