Platform Specialty Products Corporation Announces Favorable Decision in Its Patent Dispute With DuPont

Rulings Find Against DuPont on All Patent Claims, MacDermid Counterclaims Remain in Place

MIAMI, Sept. 22, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Platform Specialty Products Corporation (NYSE:PAH) ("Platform"), a global specialty chemicals company, announced today that the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey handed MacDermid Inc., a Platform Specialty Products Company ("MacDermid"), a significant victory in its long fought patent litigation with DuPont. The Court issued summary judgment rulings in favor of MacDermid finding DuPont's U.S. Patent No. 6,773,859 invalid and U.S. Patent No. 6,171,758 not infringed.

These rulings summarily find against DuPont on all of the patent claims asserted by DuPont in this lawsuit (Case No. 3:06-cv-03383). The ruling, however, leaves all counterclaims made by MacDermid against DuPont in place, in this matter, as well as MacDermid's claims in a related case that DuPont infringed MacDermid's US Patent No. RE39,835.

This ruling follows a related and significant victory by MacDermid in the case of MacDermid v. Cortron Corporation. In that case, a Connecticut jury found that DuPont and Cortron colluded against MacDermid to unreasonably restrain trade in violation of U.S. antitrust laws, and awarded MacDermid millions of dollars in damages.

Timothy Gotsick, the General Manager of MacDermid Printing Solutions said, "We are gratified that the court has agreed with us that DuPont's claims should be summarily dismissed. We have been confident all along that we have not infringed any legitimate intellectual property rights of DuPont, and this ruling validates our long held position. MacDermid remains committed to the flexographic plate market and our customers. We will continue to innovate and compete vigorously to make the best products and services possible."
