STI Completes Sale of Equity Interest in Resonant Inc. for $3.56 Million

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 30, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI) (Nasdaq:SCON), a world leader in the development and production of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials and associated technologies, has agreed to sell its minority position of 700,000 shares of common stock in Resonant Inc. (Nasdaq:RESN) to various buyers for an aggregate of $3,564,400 in a private transaction. The buyers include the founders and employees of Resonant Inc. who have collectively offered to purchase 49,500 shares. The closing of the transactions are subject to customary and other conditions.

"This transaction completes our goal to unlock the value of the intellectual property STI contributed at the formation of Resonant," stated Jeff Quiram, STI's president and chief executive officer. "Our core strategy is to focus on the commercialization of Conductus® wire, while at the same time always reviewing opportunities presented to monetize under-utilized company assets. The formation of Resonant in 2012 and subsequent initial public offering has allowed STI shareholders to receive real value for this enabling technology. The timing of our sale was driven, in large part, by our desire to redeploy these company assets to further our Conductus wire project. STI will utilize the additional capital to execute our business plan to aggressively supply Conductus wire to the electrical device industry in the coming months. STI is proud of the part it played in forming Resonant and wishes Resonant continued success."
