WASHINGTON, Sept. 30, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) honored three Hispanic chambers with the Chamber of the Year Award for outstanding service to their local business members and communities. The recipients were announced during the 2014 USHCC National Convention in Salt Lake City – officially the largest gathering of Hispanic business leaders in American history.
"The USHCC is proud to recognize the remarkable contributions local chambers are making in their communities and across the nation," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "It is through the groundbreaking work of our chambers that small businesses are enjoying access to information, networks, and resources for their continued growth. Applicants from across the nation were judged on their accomplishments, leadership, service and commitment to the small business community.
The winners of the 2014 USHCC Small, Medium and Large Chamber Awards are:
Small: Fresno Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; President: Dora Westerlund
The Small Chamber of the Year Award was presented to the Fresno Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that houses the first Hispanic business incubator in the Western United States and serves as a one-stop-shop for start-ups and expanding business in the area.
Medium: Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte; President: Astrid Chirinos
The Medium Chamber of the Year Award was presented to the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Charlotte that has focused on building access to networks, leadership development and supplier diversity in the Charlotte area.
Large: Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce; President: Alex Romero
The Large Chamber of the Year Award was presented to the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce that has been used as a community hub to include the Barelas Economic Opportunity Center (BEOC) offering job training and computer access for low-income neighborhoods.
The Small, Medium and Large Chamber of the Year Awards honor accomplished Hispanic chambers of commerce that serve fewer than 249 members, between 250 and 499 members, and more than 500 members, respectively.
