Battle For the Breasts: World's Best Female Surfers Compete for $125,000 Donation in Genetic Testing Vouchers to Clinics

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Mauli Ola Foundation's Battle for the Breasts presented by Ambry Genetics, an online surf video contest, kicks off today on Surfline.com. Sixteen of the world's best female surfers will go head to head during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness and compete for genetic testing vouchers donated by Ambry Genetics to the qualifying cancer clinics. Head to Surfline.com today to watch the video clips and cast your vote on Round 1.

"The month of October — Breast Cancer Awareness Month — is going to be an exciting time here at Surfline," said Event Director Mike Cianciulli. "Not only do we get to highlight some of the best women's surfing we've ever seen, but also raise awareness while supporting such a great cause."

The surfers in the event will represent sixteen randomly selected cancer center/clinic foundations and win up to $125,000 worth of hereditary breast cancer testing vouchers, donated on their behalf by Ambry Genetics. The remaining 12 foundations/clinics will also receive a voucher for a comprehensive BRCA1 & 2 analysis for participating in the contest.

"Early detection for breast cancer is the key to making this disease curable. Targeting women to appropriate screening, based on their personal or family history, or results of genetic testing, is the most effective mechanism we have for preventing breast cancer and saving lives," said Charles Dunlop, CEO of Ambry Genetics.

The bracket-style online video competition will see the playing field narrow throughout the month of October. Check Surfline.com weekly to vote on the next round and follow the surfers to victory.

"I've been really fired up about the Battle for the Breasts event," said surfer Sage Erickson. "Every time I paddled out, I had the mentality of wanting to surf my very best just knowing that it could possibly raise $125,000 and help save someone's life. We take the gift of being healthy for granted sometimes, so surfing for something more only gives the sport more meaning to me."
