On October 08, 2014 we have been notified pursuant to § 21 para. 1 WpHG of
the following:
The proportion of voting rights via shares of BlackRock International
Holdings Inc., New York, NY, USA in Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, has
exceeded the threshold of 3% of the voting rights on September 26, 2014 and
at that time amounted to 3.24% (4,182,708 voting rights).
2.32% of these voting rights (that corresponds to 2,997,799 voting rights)
were attributed to the company pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 1
WpHG.
0.07% of these voting rights (that corresponds 88,351 voting rights) were
attributed to the company pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 2 in
conjunction with § 22 para 1 sentence 2 WpHG.
1.17% of these voting rights (that corresponds 1,509,603 voting rights)
were attributed to the company pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 6 in
conjunction with § 22 para 1 sentence 2 WpHG.
Please note that the total amount stated above does not necessarily equal
the sum of the detailed attributed holdings. This results from voting
rights having multiple attributions within the BlackRock group structure.

Holdings L.P., St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands in Merck KGaA,
Darmstadt, Germany, has exceeded the threshold of 3% of the voting rights
on September 26, 2014 and at that time amounted to 3.24% (4,182,708 voting
rights).

2.23% of these voting rights (that corresponds to 2,877,614 voting rights)
were attributed to the company pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 1
WpHG.
1.19% of these voting rights (that corresponds 1,533,158 voting rights)
were attributed to the company pursuant to § 22 para 1 sentence 1 no. 6 in
