Aviv Nevo Joins Cornerstone Research as Senior Advisor

Former DOJ Chief Economist brings antitrust and merger expertise

WASHINGTON, DC, Oct. 16, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, announced today that Aviv Nevo, a professor of economics and marketing at Northwestern University, has affiliated with the firm as a senior advisor. Professor Nevo recently completed a term as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

During his tenure at the DOJ, Professor Nevo advised on merger, as well as civil and criminal, investigations. He led the division's Economic Analysis Group of over 60 Ph.D. economists and statistical analysts, which works jointly with the division's legal teams to assess the likely competitive impact of proposed mergers or allegedly anticompetitive practices.

"Aviv's experience at the DOJ and his considerable academic research provide insight and a well-rounded perspective on mergers and other antitrust matters," said Cornerstone Research President and CEO Michael E. Burton. "His knowledge spans a range of industries and brings additional depth to our antitrust and competition expertise."

Professor Nevo's academic work lies at the intersection of industrial organization, marketing, and econometrics. He is a pioneer in using data to analyze consumer preferences and decision making. Professor Nevo has published extensively on methods that can be used to assess market power and mergers, particularly in the context of differentiated products. His research includes studies of these industries: consumer packaged goods, retailing, real estate brokerages, healthcare, and telecommunications.

He currently serves as a coeditor of the RAND Journal of Economics, is a fellow of the Econometric Society, and is a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern University, Professor Nevo taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley.

"Cornerstone Research's creative and rigorous approach to complex litigation drew me to the firm," said Professor Nevo. "I respect the high standards that the staff bring to every assignment, and I look forward to continuing to work with their outstanding team."
