In its award citation, the ASCP cited Dr. Lundberg's illustrious career and exemplary service, both as an educator at several of the nation's most prestigious universities and as former editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association and other publications.
"Dr. Lundberg has advocated for pathologists to play the critical role as the 'interpreter' who guides clinicians to select the appropriate diagnostic test and encourages medical laboratories to focus on the quality outcomes of diagnostic testing, rather than the volume of testing they perform," the ASCP citation stated.

Dr. Lundberg was a professor of pathology and associate director of laboratories at the Los Angeles County/University of Southern California Medical Center for 10 years, and for five years was professor and chair of pathology at the University of California-Davis. He has also served on the faculty at Harvard University, Northwestern University and Stanford University. From 1982 to 1999, Dr. Lundberg was editor-in-chief of scientific information and multimedia at the American Medical Association with editorial responsibility for its 39 medical journals, American Medical News and various Internet products. In addition to his role at CollabRx, Dr. Lundberg currently serves as editor-at-large for Medscape and president and board chair of The Lundberg Institute. He has been a member of ASCP since 1959.

Thomas R. Mika, president and CEO of CollabRx, said, "Dr. Lundberg's honor is extremely well-deserved. Throughout his professional career in medicine, he has shown ethical leadership in multiple fields over many decades. We are truly privileged to have him serve as an integral part of the CollabRx team as we advance our proprietary technology to support clinical decision-making in oncology."

Each year, ASCP recognizes the individuals who have made outstanding, lifelong contributions to the Society. ASCP honors members in several categories for their singular efforts toward the advancement of the organization. ASCP applauds them for their imagination, their tenacity and their vision.
