Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces Results of 2014 Board of Directors' Election


ATLANTA, Oct. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) has announced the results of the 2014 director election. All directors-elect will serve a four-year term beginning on January 1, 2015.

FHLBank Atlanta announced that member institutions in Florida re-elected Miriam Lopez to a four-year directorship term. Ms. Lopez has been a director of FHLBank Atlanta since 2008 and is currently vice chair of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Credit and Member Services, Executive, and Finance Committees. She has also served on the Governance and Compensation, and Housing and Community Investment Committees. Ms. Lopez has served as president, chief lending officer, and director of Marquis Bank in Coral Gables, Florida since July 2010. She previously served as chief executive officer of TransAtlantic Bank in Miami, Florida for 24 years and as TransAtlantic's chairman of the board from 2003 to 2007. She is a former president (non-executive position) of the Florida Bankers Association and former member of the American Bankers Association's Government Relations Council and Executive Committee. Ms. Lopez has expertise in accounting and finance.

FHLBank Atlanta member institutions in Georgia re-elected Richard A. Whaley to a four-year directorship term. Mr. Whaley has been a director of FHLBank Atlanta since 2013 and is currently chair of the Credit and Member Services Committee, and a member of the Executive, Finance, and Housing and Community Investment Committees. Mr. Whaley serves as president, chief executive officer, and director of Citizens Bank of Americus in Americus, Georgia, positions he has held since 2001. From 1989 to 2001, he served as market manager and commercial lender for Wachovia Bank. Mr. Whaley served as chairman of the Georgia Bankers Association from October 2010 to June 2012. Mr. Whaley also served as chairman of the South Georgia Technical College Foundation from 2008 to 2010. He has been a member of the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia Cities Foundation Special Downtown Task Force since 2011, and has served as a director of the Georgia Bankers Association Insurance Trust, Inc., since June 2013. Mr. Whaley has expertise in community banking, auditing, accounting, risk management, and credit and collateral matters.

FHLBank Atlanta member institutions elected Jonathan Kislak as an independent director. Mr. Kislak has been a director of FHLBank Atlanta since 2008 and is currently chair of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Enterprise Risk and Operations, Executive, and Governance and Compensation Committees. Mr. Kislak has also served on the Credit and Member Services Committees. Mr. Kislak is a principal and chairman of the board of Antares Capital Corporation, a venture capital firm investing equity capital in expansion stage companies and management buyout opportunities. From 1993 to 2005, Mr. Kislak served as president and chairman of the board of Kislak Financial Corporation, a community bank holding company in Miami, Florida. Since October 2013, Mr. Kislak has served as chair of the Audit Committee of the Cherry Hill Mortgage Investment Corp. (NYSE:CHMI). Mr. Kislak has expertise in economics and finance.

FHLBank Atlanta also announced that member institutions in Maryland elected Kim C. Liddell to a four-year directorship term. Mr. Liddell has served as president and chief executive officer of the National Bank of Cambridge since 2010. He was elected chairman of the board of directors in April 2011. From 2004 to 2009, Mr. Liddell served as chief operating officer and executive vice president of Cardinal Financial Corporation (CFNL) and Cardinal Bank. Mr. Liddell has served as a board member of the Virginia Bankers Association's Member Services, Inc., Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area, Business in Education Partnership with the Falls Church City Public Schools, Arlington County Chamber of Commerce, Celebrate Fairfax, and Leadership Fairfax. Mr. Liddell currently serves on the boards of the Maryland Bankers Association, Dorchester General Hospital Foundation, and Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce.
