Air Force Village Is Now Blue Skies of Texas

San Antonio Senior Living Community Rebrands and Opens Eligibility

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - After 50 years of serving retired military officers and their families, Air Force Village has expanded its eligibility to include all former military personnel as well as seniors without a military background. As part of the transition, the two campuses located in San Antonio will now be known as Blue Skies of Texas.

"We've experienced tremendous growth in our five decades of operation as Air Force Village," said Lieutenant General Loyd S. "Chip" Utterback, USAF retired and now president and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Skies of Texas. "In our transition to Blue Skies of Texas, we'll continue offering the highest level of retirement living and quality care to a larger number of seniors who value our culture and military heritage."

In November 2013, the Air Force Village Board of Directors approved opening residency to non-military retired professionals in an effort to modernize the community and secure its future as a leader in senior living. Blue Skies of Texas continues the tradition of Air Force Village through the mission of improving seniors' lives by providing quality retirement living with an emphasis on individual wellbeing.

Air Force Village's first campus opened in 1970, with contributions from Air Force Officers' Wives' Clubs from around the world. Seventeen years later, the second campus opened seven miles away. Blue Skies of Texas East and West, as the two locations are now called, are currently home to more than 1,200 seniors.

"Our new name and image allows us to reflect on the outside all the progress we've made on the inside within the last few years," said Utterback. "The rebranding is another step of growth as we continue this journey as one of the nation's leaders in senior living."

The name Blue Skies is an ode to the phrase of airmen's best wishes, "blue skies and tailwinds," and reflects the idea that blue skies and unlimited possibilities are ahead as the community continues to grow.

Blue Skies of Texas is a non-profit continuing care retirement community that is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The two campuses, Blue Skies of Texas East, located at 4917 Ravenswood Dr., and Blue Skies of Texas West, located at 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd., offer the full continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care and hospice.
