Jose Alberro Joins Cornerstone Research as Senior Advisor

International arbitrator and former CEO enhances industry expertise

Dr. Alberro will also cohead Cornerstone Research's international arbitration and litigation practice.

Dr. Alberro's expertise focuses on oil, natural gas, energy, telecommunications, water distribution, electricity, and consumer goods. He has provided expert testimony in international arbitrations on four continents, involving both investor-state and commercial disputes.

Dr. Alberro served as the chief representative of Petróleos Mexicanos during the North American Free Trade Agreement negotiations. He was the founding CEO and president of Pemex Gas y Petroquímica Básica, a major Mexican gas and liquids company. Dr. Alberro has also consulted for the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

He has conducted arbitrations at the World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and at the American Arbitration Association. In Mexico, he served in the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industrial Promotion, and the Ministry of Programming and the Budget.

Dr. Alberro earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and is trilingual, fluent in Spanish, French, and English. He is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and taught at universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico for 15 years. His research and analyses have been widely published, including in the Global Competition Review, Competition Law360, and the USITC's Journal of International Commerce and Economics.
