The award, sponsored by Blue Cross of NEPA and ChamberChoice, recognizes Navient's persistent efforts for the health and wellness of its Wilkes-Barre center employees. Keynote speaker Wico van Genderen, president and CEO of Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, praised Navient for its efforts to not only enhance the health of their workforce, but to enhance the health of the entire community. Dan Jorris of Blue Cross of NEPA presented the award to Troy Standish, senior vice president, Navient.

"The Chamber is proud to work with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and ChamberChoice to honor businesses in the community that publicly promote the importance of a healthy workplace," said Donna Sedor, vice president, Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce. "Navient's program is creative and consistent. The emphasis on health and wellness can be seen throughout their facility. They are truly a leader in workplace wellness efforts."

Navient is committed to employee health and wellness, and offers a variety of resources and activities to help encourage and motivate employees. More than 80 percent of Wilkes-Barre employees who use medical insurance take part in some element of Navient's wellness program, which provides them with a discount on their medical coverage premium.

"This award is a testament to Navient's outstanding dedication to employee wellness," said Troy Standish, senior vice president, Navient. "We understand the role of physical health not only at work, but in our everyday lives. We hope employees continue to lead active lives and learn from one another the positive results of living a healthy lifestyle."

Employee wellness activities include a six-week team physical challenge, in which employees can form teams to compete in areas such as time spent exercising. Navient offers individual activity tracking and online wellness courses. The company provides incentives including gift cards and paid time off for participating in healthy activities.

George Hart, Navient's on-site certified personal trainer, stresses the many benefits of leading an active lifestyle, many of which remain long after a visit to the gym.

"Like most of our culture, we are prone to sitting for long hours, either at work or in the car, in front of a TV, or during school classes," Hart said. "Incorporating movement exercises and stretching into a daily routine helps to not only increase energy levels and performance, but also helps craft better self-image and confidence."
