Radware Announces High-Scale Application Delivery Controllers for Mobile Carriers and High-End Enterprise Data Centers

Radware Offers Both a Hardware Platform and First to Market ADC Virtual Appliance for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)

MAHWAH, N.J., Nov. 3, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Radware®(Nasdaq:RDWR), a leading provider of application delivery and application security solutions for virtual and cloud data centers, today announced the launch of its newest high-scale, carrier-grade application delivery controllers (ADC) aimed for mobile carriers and high-end enterprise data centers.

Radware introduces two ADC solutions as software and hardware platforms. The Alteon VA® for NFV, a virtual network function for network functions virtualization (NFV) environments and the Alteon 8420, a carrier-grade, high capacity ADC.

As network carriers and enterprise data centers seek to reduce their CAPEX and OPEX as well as accelerate the deployment of new network/web services, these organizations are working to standardize the virtualization of their network functions through an industry standard called NFV.

As industry's first NFV compliant, software-based application delivery controller (ADC) on the market, Radware's Alteon VA for NFV will help reduce the total cost of ownership for carrier's load balancing and traffic steering functions by decoupling ADC functions from dedicated underlying hardware and offering the same benefits but through a highly-scalable, software-based solution.

Designed from the ground up to meet the needs of carriers and high-end enterprise data centers, the Alteon VA for NFV can run on commercially off the shelf (COTS) server infrastructure and delivers up to 160Gbps of throughput capacity.

Benefits of the Alteon VA for NFV (VNF/C) include:

  • Cost Reduction: Ability to run ADC function on standardized hardware. Eliminates specialized hardware purchase or implementation.
  • Dynamic Scalability: Seamlessly add more throughput capacity as needed by leveraging existing server infrastructure.
  • Advanced Carrier Functions: Efficiently route traffic to different value added services (VAS) or monetization engines with high capacity steering functions.
  • High-performance: Multi vCPU support, vSwitch bypass and leveraging of Intel's DPDK library.
  • Reduced Operational Complexity: Faster rollout of complex applications through native integration with virtualization orchestration systems.

For high-end enterprise data centers and network carriers who have not yet transitioned to NFV, Radware introduces its newest addition to the Alteon line of hardware platforms. The Alteon 8420 offers on demand scalability in throughput – 100-160 Gbps in a single platform and up to 100 virtual ADC (vADC) instances. This allows the user to consolidate existing ADC devices as well as to support dozens of applications and services with a single ADC platform.

The Alteon 8420 is a carrier-grade platform designed to meet the challenging capacity growth of carriers and Internet service providers who need to address the increase of video and mobile data traffic.

"Carrier networks are seeing an exponential growth with the amount of traffic in their data centers due to the escalation of mobile communication and Internet ready devices connected to the network," says David Aviv, vice president of advanced services, Radware. "As carriers start to explore new alternatives offered by the NFV architecture and implementation for reduced cost structure and operations, this new offering provides high-scale ADC software (VNF) and hardware solutions that will meet the ongoing capacity needs for those who require a durable high-end ADC solution."
