Adesto Announces Major Breakthrough in Low Power Memory With 1.2 Volt CBRAM

CBRAM Resistive Memory Enables Radically Low Energy Consumption, Setting Standard for a New Generation of Memory for the Era of Things

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 10, 2014) - Adesto Technologies, the inventor and market leader of the world's lowest power memory solutions, today announced the launch of a new non-volatile serial memory capable of operating at 1.2 volts -- a radical breakthrough in ultra-low power memory technology. The new 1.2V (RM25UL) family of devices employs Adesto's proprietary CBRAM technology. CBRAM is universally adaptable as the underlying memory for a broad range of applications; it enables up to 100 times less energy consumption than today's leading memory technologies without sacrificing performance and reliability.

By combining its low voltage operation with extremely low current read and write features, the new memory is ideal for IoT applications such as Bluetooth low energy (BLE) products, DECT ULE (Ultra Low Energy), Wi-Fi Direct and other low-energy protocols for connected devices. Compared to existing memory solutions, the new 1.2V CBRAM reduces device voltage requirements by 35%, defining an entirely new product category of ultra-low power memory chips.

"It takes significant effort and expertise to bring a game-changing technology like CBRAM to market," said Narbeh Derhacobian, CEO of Adesto. "We've spent more than seven years developing CBRAM. With this new product line, we demonstrate its truly revolutionary properties, especially the ability to operate at unprecedented low voltage while consuming extremely low energy. Our customers want memory that can complement their chipsets operating at 1.2V. For any other technology, that specification would be prohibitive. With CBRAM, we open a truly exciting new world of possibilities for low energy electronics."

In June 2014, Adesto shipped the one-millionth unit of CBRAM, proving its market readiness for a wide range of applications.

With the rise of the 'Era of Things' and the promise of millions of connected devices gathering data on everything from washing machines to industrial agriculture, a new paradigm for electronic components is emerging. In the past, production of memory products has focused on higher-density, less expensive chipsets. The chips of the future will operate under an entirely new set of demands, of which low energy consumption is paramount.

Adesto also announced the RM25D Series, a companion family of wide Vcc (1.65V-3.6V) CBRAM products targeting wearable, mobile and other energy-conscious applications. The two new CBRAM product families with densities up to 2 Mbits, are scheduled to sample in the first half of 2015, with production beginning later in the year.
