Former FDA Official Quynh T. Hoang Joins King & Spalding in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - November 10, 2014) - King & Spalding recruited former U.S. Food and Drug Administration official Quynh T. Hoang as a senior regulatory consultant in the FDA and life sciences practice of its Washington, D.C., office. Hoang, a 24-year veteran of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, retired from the agency last month as chief of neurodiagnostic and neurosurgical devices branch of the neurological and physical medicine devices division. Hoang will advise clients on premarket approval strategies, de novo classifications, reclassifications, investigational device exemptions, combination products and appeals from adverse agency decisions.

"Quynh has a strong skill set, extensive experience and, as an electrical engineer, deep technical expertise in medical devices, which she developed over a two-decade career at the FDA," said Mark S. Brown, leader of King & Spalding's FDA and life sciences practice. "Quynh brings additional strength to our team, and her unique talents will be of great benefit to our clients. We welcome her to King & Spalding."

At the FDA, Hoang was responsible for coordinating the development of guidance documents, liaising with other FDA branches, co-authoring memoranda of understanding for medical devices that crossed multiple branches, and interacting with device manufacturers worldwide on marketing pathways and regulatory requirements for their products. Hoang oversaw the work of 18 clinicians, engineers and scientists. Her experience included the pre-market review of cardiac, ophthalmic and neurological devices and the post-market assessment of adverse signals. She received a master's degree in bioengineering from Penn State University and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, magna cum laude, from Georgia Institute of Technology.

"I am excited to be part of King & Spalding's FDA and life sciences team and look forward to helping advise the firm's growing roster of major clients in the medical devices industry," said Hoang.
