Warsaw Hotel Reflects on Philosophy of Founder for 25 Years of Success

Silver Anniversary Draws Attention to Importance of Warsaw Marriott Hotel

WARSAW, POLAND--(Marketwired - Nov 11, 2014) - Reflecting on the philosophy followed by its founder, one of the prestigious hotels in Warsaw Poland is celebrating the glory of its past, present and future during its 25th anniversary year.

Using its silver anniversary celebration as an opportunity for travellers to take a closer look, the Warsaw Marriott Hotel is sharing incredible stories that combine cultural and historical elements of importance, including its key role in the development of Polish tourism and trade.

Construction of the hotel, which was to become one of the most important buildings constructed in the area of the so-called Warsaw Centre Western Region in the quarter of Wspólna, Chałubińskiego, Jana Pawła II, Świętokrzyska and Emilii Plater Streets, began in 1977. Although still socialist Poland, this new period of building saw an increase in the Poles' standard of living.

"Designing the LIM Complex (LOT, ILBAU, MARRIOTT), and subsequently building it, is an important and colourful period in the story of my life," reflects Architect Jerzy Skrzypczak of Biuro Projektów Architektury J&J, one of the hotel's designers. "The hotel's anniversary is an opportunity for me to remind myself how important an investment that was for the city, its residents and visitors to Warsaw, and how technically in advance it was of the real situation."

"Apart from a rich programme and standard of hotel services offered, the LIM Complex and the previously built BH and CHZ building contributed a scale of height to the architectural landscape of Warsaw which could start to counter-balance the scale of the Palace of Culture and Science, and for architects that was the dominant value," he continued. "And, the rich programme of the five-star Marriott for many Poles embodied their longing for the beautiful, luxurious Western world, and despite the subsequent competition it will remain such a symbol for a long time to come."

With the hotel's construction suspended for nearly seven years during the 1980s, its doors were finally opened to guests during the symbolic year of 1989. Since that time, many important historical events for Poland have taken place in what has come to be known as an iconic business hotel in Warsaw.

The profile of hotel guests has been changing along with the hotel itself. Nowadays, the Marriott hotel's management sees its luxurious Warsaw City Centre lodging as becoming an increasingly popular destination among those for whom accommodation at the Marriott is an obligatory and unforgettable tourist attraction in itself.

"There is a new generation of customers on the market. Their expectations and needs are different from those of current travelers," explains General Manager Robert Grader. "We were spoiled by the Baby Boomer generation, because they knew our brand and liked the consistency we offered across our hotels. Their loyalty was high. But there are new generations and they have now taken the lead when it comes to international traveling, and it is of key importance to us to focus on that type of customer, to adapt to expectations in terms of product and design, technology and other elements."

"Very often our guests will say, 'I feel as if I were at home, and sometimes even more so.'" noted Idalia Kostrzewska, director of guest relations at the Warsaw Marriott Hotel and recipient of the JW Marriott Award of Excellence.

"Marriott's philosophy has always been based on our founder's belief that if you look after people, they will in turn look after the customer and the customer will come back. This has served us well for over 80 years in our hotels around the world and the Marriott Warsaw is no exception. We are celebrating 25 years of looking after people. Our employees at the hotel have been the foundation of our success in making the Warsaw Marriott the iconic hotel of not just the city but the country," said Marriott's Area Director of Human Resources for Eastern Europe Sergio Snyder. "Our people are a prime example of how Marriott has delivered excellent service throughout the world and our prime example in this hotel is Idalia Kostrzewska, who is one of only a few employees around the world to attain this honour."
