Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Expands Relationship With Echologics

ATLANTA, Nov. 11, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) has awarded Echologics a contract to assess the condition of its buried water assets. WSSC will deploy Echologics' ePULSETM technology, the Company's proprietary and patented acoustic pipe condition assessment service. The contract is for one year with options for WSSC to renew it for two additional years.

An affiliate of Mueller Co., Echologics is a leading developer and provider of smart water technologies, including acoustic-based technologies for leak detection, pipe condition assessment and water loss management, which allow water utilities to intelligently manage their assets. WSSC is among the largest water and wastewater utilities in the United States. Echologics' ePULSE technology was first piloted by WSSC in 2012.

Under the contract, Echologics will use the ePULSE technology to assess 65 miles of water distribution mains (less than 16") and approximately 10 miles of water transmission mains (16" and greater). Echologics is responsible for project management of the assessment program that also includes 5 miles of in-pipe transmission main testing based on the ePULSE results.

Echologics' ePULSE technology is a non-invasive pipe condition assessment service that is designed to provide water utilities with cost-effective and accurate measurement of the remaining average wall thickness of a selected length of pipe, while simultaneously identifying leaks. Water utilities can use this information to efficiently target capital, mitigate risks associated with deteriorating pipe walls, reduce non-revenue water, and prioritize pipelines for repairs and/or replacements.

"We are proud of our continued partnership with WSSC and the work we have done to help them prioritize capital expenditures and reduce water loss," said Marc Bracken, vice president and general manager of Echologics. "We are excited to continue helping WSSC achieve its goals and better understand the remaining service life of its water infrastructure assets, which should allow WSSC to mitigate risks and avoid costly service disruptions."
