Since 1998, Michael has held a number of leadership positions with Sempra Energy, an $11 billion Fortune 300 energy services company in San Diego, CA. His most recent position was Chairman, President and CEO of Southern California Gas Company, the $4 billion, largest natural gas distribution company in the United States. He led his team in achieving record profits and a #1 ranking in customer service among large natural gas distribution companies.
Previously Michael was President and CEO of Sempra Generation, a $2 billion electric generation business. He holds approximately 15 years of management experience in the electric generation and energy industries, through various executive roles at Sempra. Earlier, Michael had an 11-year career at The LEK/Alcar Consulting Group, holding business development and consulting roles in the U.S., Europe, and South Africa.
Michael is a Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.
