Daniel Boggan, Jr. Named Interim CEO for Alameda Health System

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 20, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alameda Health System (AHS) announced that its Board of Trustees unanimously named Daniel Boggan, Jr. as interim CEO. While Boggan's tenure will officially begin on December 15, he is already in close communication with AHS' current CEO Wright L. Lassiter, III to ensure a coordinated transition. As interim CEO, Boggan will serve as the principal liaison between AHS senior management and its Board. He will focus on accomplishing the components of AHS' strategic plan and to ensure short-term financial success.

Since Lassiter announced plans to leave AHS for the Henry Ford Health System, the AHS Board has worked diligently to ensure that strong leadership is in place to guide the organization. In late September, the Board endorsed the creation of a Transition Committee comprised of four Trustees and a member of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to identify an interim CEO while a national search process for a permanent CEO could be completed.

"As a vital, trusted health care provider and a major employer in the East Bay, we knew we needed someone of Dan's caliber to lead while the work continues to identify the next dynamic, community-minded leader of AHS," said AHS' Board of Trustees President Kirk Miller. "Dan understands how to build on the strengths of our medical staff and dedicated employees, and will ensure that our system runs seamlessly during this transition time. Our entire organization wants to thank Wright for his contributions to our health system and wishes him well in his future endeavors at Henry Ford."

Boggan served on AHS' Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2014, led the Board as President from 2010 to 2013, and served on the CEO Search Committee that brought Lassiter to AHS. He has more than 40 years of experience in public administration including roles as Assistant City Manager, City Manager, and County Administrator in Berkeley; Flint, Mich.; San Diego and Essex County, N.J. In addition to the direct oversight of municipal, county and student public health services, he has an extensive financial background having served as the VP of Investment Banking for an Oakland-based firm and COO of the NCAA in Indianapolis, Ind. Boggan has a bachelor's degree from Albion College and a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan.

"During my decade of service on AHS' Board, the system's reputation has grown tremendously into a provider of world-class health care that is sought after by members of the community and by the next generation of doctors as a destination for training," said Boggan. "My goal as interim CEO is to work with all of our facilities and staff to push forward while the organization is in transition. I understand the need for transparency so people understand the challenges of running a public hospital in the uncharted health care environment that arrived with the Affordable Care Act."
