Cubic Awarded $51 Million in Contract Orders to Support Home-Station Training for the U.S. Army

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) announced today that it was awarded two new orders with a combined value at more than $51 million for its Tactical Vehicle System (TVS) and Instrumentable Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System Individual Weapon Systems (I-MILES IWS) from the U.S. Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI). These solutions are instrumental to the quality of home-station training by providing significant improvements to training realism.

The orders come as part of a $4.3 billion Department of Defense reprogramming package presented to the U.S. Congress for critically needed defense equipment and services. This collaborative, bipartisan effort between the executive and legislative branches depicts our nation's commitment towards national security readiness and the ultimate preparedness of our men and women who serve in our armed forces.

In a recent letter to Army Secretary, John McHugh, San Diego Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, expressed strong support for the reprogramming stating, "Cubic's TVS and I-MILES solutions are crucial for warfighter training because they enable soldiers to rehearse combat skills and learn from their mistakes safely in a battlefield setting. These devices are used during live, force-on-force training events and provide the critical feedback for our forces to achieve and sustain mission readiness."

I-MILES IWS uses laser emitters that attach to military weapons and on-body sensors to replicate combat and records data for later review. I-MILES TVS, the vehicular adaptation of Cubic's man-worn Individual Weapons System (IWS), equips Army wheel vehicles and other tactical vehicles with lasers, sensors and electronics used during force-on-force combat training exercises. It employs Cubic's wireless MILES technology to provide real-time casualty assessment necessary for MILES tactical engagement training in direct-fire instrumented training scenarios. It delivers superior performance because of its weapon simulation and casualty assessment accuracy for vehicles and fixed structures.

"Cubic is proud to provide I-MILES IWS and TVS training equipment and to support the U.S. Army's relentless focus on training. We believe our systems play a critical role for the development and sustainment of our warfighters," said Dave Schmitz, president of Cubic Defense Applications. "It is our goal to provide the most effective and affordable training solutions, and to do so by driving innovation into the areas most critical to our customers."
