Magma Adds the ExpressBox 3400 to its High Performance Computing Expansion Product Line

Magma Launches Latest Gen-3 PCI Express 7- slot Expansion Chassis for High Performance Computing Peripherals

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 25, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - Magma, a manufacturer of expansion computing solutions, today announced the addition of the ExpressBox 3400 Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) expansion system to its growing line of Gen 3 PCI Express expansion chassis. The EB3400, targeted for High Performance Computing (HPC) and industrial computing applications, features PCIe Gen 3 connectivity and is equipped with 7-PCIe X8 electrical slots in a uniquely small 4U half width chassis. This unique size for housing full-length full-height PCIe cards optimizes rack space and increases configuration flexibility.

Magma specifically designed the EB3400 for its client network in defense, aerospace and the music and entertainment industry. Additionally, Magma sees emerging industries in oil and gas exploration, big data, health, and life sciences utilizing the EB3400 for its interconnect speed and potential computing power, according to Matt Rackstein, field application engineer for Magma.

"The EB3400 is an important addition to our Gen 3 PCIe line of expansion chassis," said Rackstein. "With more companies and researchers looking to enhance computing performance, by adding additional I/O support, the EB3400 can provide the connection to superfast peripherals without forcing clients to build a new, costly workstation from scratch."

The EB3400 is available for purchase beginning today and customers can place orders at magma.com, and can expect delivery within three to four weeks of their order date.

"As more companies and facilities work on larger data sets, it is important for Magma to expand our Gen 3 PCIe expansion line to meet that demand," said Timothy Miller, president of Magma. "We expect to see the EB3400 utilized in lots of PCIe SSD applications, where speed and performance are crucial, as well as other high performance computing scenarios."

The EB3400 can accept full-length full-height PCIe cards x16 mechanical and x8 electrical. Cooling the EB3400 are (2) 92mm x 92mm x 25mm fans, while power is supplied through an internal 520 watt power supply. The system supports Mac OS, Windows, Linux, and Solaris operating systems. The EB3400 enclosure is 16.5 inches long, 8.5 inches wide, and 7.25 inches tall.
