Shirley Fiterman Art Center at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) Presents Paper Reveries

NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A new exhibit, Paper Reveries, second in the series Art Ahead, will open at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, at 81 Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan.

"ART AHEAD, as a series, will be a platform for contemporary art that explores risk taking and sparks conversation on art," says Kathleen Kucka, curator of the exhibition.

The goal of the series is to "engage students, faculty, staff and the community of BMCC, as well as a larger audience throughout New York City, in a dialogue of art and its role in our daily lives. Access to art is one priority of the series. Another is starting a relationship with art that will grow throughout a person's life."

A unique feature of the Shirley Fiterman Art Center is that a portion of all sales goes directly to the BMCC Foundation scholarship fund, "which ensures the success of our hardest-working students, who come from every borough of Manhattan and countries all around the world, seeking better lives," says Kucka.

What if paper could dream?
What would its dreams be made of?
Fantastical shapes, forms and colors?
Would paper daydream of being large sheets
with candy-colored watercolors and designs
painted all around?
Would it want to be soft and feathery,
or hard and compact?
Would it dream of becoming a book?
Would it fantasize of transforming into lace,
through Kirie, an ancient Japanese
paper-cutting technique?
Join us December 10,
for the opening of Paper Reveries,
when the dreams will be revealed.
