NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 1, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Immucor, Inc., a global leader in transfusion and transplantation diagnostics, announced that its PreciseType HEA test, the first and only FDA-approved molecular immunohematology assay, has been named a Top Innovation in The Scientist's Top 10 Innovations of 2014 – an annual competition in which the publication highlights the newest laboratory products that are set to revolutionize life sciences.

The PreciseType HEA test is a molecular assay that identifies 35 red blood cell antigens from 11 blood groups simultaneously. Consolidation of antigen identification into one test enables clinicians and blood banks to efficiently perform a more detailed, extended typing of patients and donors, allowing increased transfusion compatibility. The results reduce the risk of alloimmunization and serious hemolytic reactions. The PreciseType test also provides valuable information in blood donation centers for improved donor management by identifying donors with rare or unusual antigens so blood banks can distinguish and save scarce units for special cases.
