San Antonio Chiropractor Warns of Common Holiday Injuries

SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 7, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Phillips Chiropractic, Nutrition, and Wellness is warning San Antonio residents about common injuries incurred during the holiday season. The chiropractic practice notes that during the holidays, certain types of injuries increase as residents spend time hanging lights and decorations, lifting heavy bags, and rushing around. While the chiropractic practice cautions residents to be careful during the holidays, the office also recommends residents who have experienced back, neck, and bodily injuries see a chiropractor for treatment.

"It's really surprising how many people are injured during the holidays," says San Antonio chiropractor Dr. Donald Phillips. "Whether it's someone falling off a ladder while hanging Christmas lights, slipping on ice in a parking lot, or suffering back and neck strain from heavy packages, we see a lot of injuries during the months of December and January."

Trips, slips and falls are common during this time of year, and can have a significant impact on the spine and other areas of the body, according to the chiropractor. Other common injuries include back strain from lifting heavy objects and bags, neck and arm pain from carrying heavy shopping packages, and lower back pain from excessive walking and repeated lifting.

"The holidays should be a time of joy spent celebrating with friends and family, not suffering from pain," said the chiropractor. "Every year, we work with San Antonio residents to help them recover from a holiday-related injury so they can get back to enjoying the holidays to the fullest."

Dr. Phillips has worked with a number of patients who have experienced holiday injuries, and provides professional evaluations to determine what caused the injury, how the injury affects the entire body, and the best way to reduce inflammation, pain and discomfort for the patient. He then works with the patient on healing the injury and providing information on avoiding future injuries.

"It's important that an individual be evaluated by a chiropractor as soon as possible after an injury, especially if the incident was a fall of any kind or strain related to lifting and carrying," says Dr. Phillips. "We can offer immediate relief and the treatment can provide long-term rehabilitation from the injury. We have many tools at our disposal to reduce pain and inflammation after an injury, allowing patients to heal and feel better faster."

The San Antonio chiropractor offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for individuals who have been injured during the holidays by a slip, trip, fall, or strain. Dr. Phillips conducts a full physical examination, and may order diagnostic x-rays to be taken in order to get a more complete view of the injured area. After the initial visit, Dr. Phillips reviews the findings and recommends a custom treatment plan designed to provide the patient with pain relief and get them back on their feet as quickly as possible.
