InterDigital Demonstrates M2M Standards Research at oneM2M Showcase Event

WILMINGTON, Del., Dec. 9, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq:IDCC), a mobile technology research and development company, today announced the upcoming participation by its InterDigital Labs group at the oneM2M Showcase Event on December 9, 2014 in Sophia Antipolis, France. That participation will include a multi-vendor interoperability demonstration of InterDigital's oneM2M Service Delivery Platform involving leading industry participants.

The event in France will showcase InterDigital's collaboration with NEC Corporation, Fraunhoffer FOKUS, KETI and SK Telecom. The company will also demonstrate an independent living/eHealth demonstration with Lamprey Networks utilizing Continua Alliance-certified health devices and applications communicating through InterDigital's oneM2M standards-compliant Service Delivery Platform.

The oneM2M Showcase is an opportunity for technologists, telecom operators, technology vendors, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) service providers and consumer businesses involved with intelligent transportation, healthcare, utilities and smart homes to discuss the latest trends and technology developments powering the M2M market. oneM2M is the global standards initiative for M2M and IoT. oneM2M aims to develop common technical specifications that provide a framework for devices, applications and servers to communicate and share information regardless of transport network.

"The ability to connect devices through M2M can deliver extraordinary business value, but as real-world M2M deployments pick up steam, there is still significant technical work required behind the scenes to effectively power seamless connectivity," said Byung K. Yi, Executive Vice President, InterDigital Labs, and Chief Technology Officer at InterDigital. "With decades of industry-leading wireless standards development experience, InterDigital is in a unique position to contribute to the technical advancements powering M2M. oneM2M gives us the opportunity to join other leaders in our industry working toward the same goal."

The interoperability demo at the oneM2M Showcase – by Convida Wireless, InterDigital's M2M joint venture with Sony Corporation of America – is the second opportunity in less than a month for InterDigital to showcase IoT technologies that provide a standards-based solution to the connectivity and scalability challenges of this high-growth industry segment. InterDigital also demonstrated oneM2M-based interconnected IoT devices and platforms at IoT week in Seoul, Korea in November 2014, again featuring collaboration with KETI, Fraunhofer FOKUS, SK Telecom and NEC.

Other leading technology companies conducting demonstrations at the oneM2M Showcase include: China United Network Communications Group, Eluon, Ericsson, ESMIG, GridPocket, Huawei Technologies, Kamstrup, LAAS-CNRS, Lamprey Networks, LG Electronics, LG U+, Modacom, nTels, Personal Connected Health Alliance (Continua), Qualcomm, Sierra Wireless, TELIT/ILS Technology and Vodafone.
