Kivuto Solutions Opens EdTech Incubator

OTTAWA, Dec. 11, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Technology startups in Ottawa focused on the education market have a new place to develop ideas and products with the launch yesterday Kivuto's educational technology-focused incubator.

Kivuto Solutions Inc., the world's leading provider of hosted, flexible and scalable solutions for complex digital distribution requirements, announced the early stage startup incubator program yesterday at the opening of its new offices in the Byward Market. Kivuto's Educational Technology incubator will provide startups with office space in the Kivuto facility, access to Kivuto resources, distribution network (thousands of online stores) and support from the team of experienced staff in the education market.

"Over the past 17 years Kivuto Solutions has established itself as a global leader in digital distribution of software and learning tools for the education market through its highly specialized Electronic License Management System (ELMS) platform, distribution network, and marketing services," said Richard White, Vice-President and COO, Kivuto. "Our distribution solutions currently handle over 30 million transactions each year. We're looking forward to sharing the market knowledge and experiences behind this success with Ottawa entrepreneurs focused on the education market. And we're hoping this new incubator will accelerate the growth of startups that have a product or service that adds value to the academic community and enhances the quality of learning, student outcomes and collaboration at academic institutions worldwide."

The startup incubator will initially support up to four startups and a total of 13 people. Kivuto invites all Ottawa entrepreneurs with interesting, innovative ideas to apply for the incubator program at their website.

"It's hard enough to start a business on your own, but when you team up with an awesome organization like Kivuto, it makes it that much easier" said Frank Bouchard, co-founder of Wipebook at the official opening of the facility. He then added, "The resources and support Kivuto will provide will make it easier for these companies to turn ideas into marketable products."

As part of the official launch of its new facility, Kivuto also announced its relationship with Wipebook, an Ottawa startup that has been working with Kivuto to further develop its product and distribute it to the education market in North America. Designed to replace traditional notebooks and whiteboards, Wipebook blends the capabilities of both in a compact, spiral-bound collection of white, specially-coated, erasable sheets on which users can write notes, plot charts, draw graphics, or compose music with correctable markers.

In addition to the education technology incubator, Kivuto also announced a new program to support local business, technology and creative groups by providing space at its new facilities for special events, such as conferences, meetups and product demonstrations.
