PASCAGOULA, Miss., Dec. 23, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries' (NYSE:HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division ramped up its holiday giving this December to help needy families throughout Mississippi. In addition to its monetary donation to Our Daily Bread, Ingalls sponsored a companywide Angel Tree to collect toys and clothes for children.
Ingalls shipbuilders provided toys and clothes for 124 children this year as part of the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
"It is a huge blessing to be able to have the community's help available for the Angel Tree program, and Ingalls Shipbuilding plays a big role," said Capt. Jenny Bailey of the Jackson County Salvation Army. "We at the Salvation Army couldn't accomplish all this work without the help of the community, and Ingalls' contribution for 124 children is truly appreciated."
The shipyard also donated $5,000 to Our Daily Bread, an organization that feeds the unemployed, homeless and the elderly. Our Daily Bread, part of United Christian Outreach, Inc., feeds a noon meal seven days a week at its Pascagoula location.
"The shipbuilders truly banded together this year to make the holiday season special and memorable for so many families," said Edmond Hughes, Ingalls' vice president of human resources and administration. "It's humbling to see the dedication to volunteerism and giving. All of Ingalls' charity activities and events go toward making the holidays more special for our local families in need."
These holiday charities continued Ingalls' yearlong acts of community service. Earlier this September, Ingalls raised more than $450,000 between employee and company pledges for the United Way for Jackson and George Counties.
