Canlan Agrees to Purchase the Lake Barrington Field House Sports Complex in Lake Barrington, Illinois

The Third Facility in Its Diversification Strategy Aligned With Their Sportsplex Model; Focusing on Field and Court Sports

BURNABY, British Columbia, Dec. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canlan Ice Sports Corp. (TSX:ICE), industry-leading providers of recreational sports and entertainment facilities across North America, today announced it is expanding its portfolio with the acquisition of the Lake Barrington Field House; a 175,000 square foot indoor sports complex located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. The transaction is scheduled to close on or before January 31, 2015.

"We are extremely pleased with the opportunity to purchase this magnificent sports facility, which aligns nicely with our strategy of expansion to complement our core ice facilities with 'non-ice' sports and recreation. This is yet another significant milestone for Canlan in the Chicagoland area, further demonstrating our commitment to this wonderful community," stated Joey St-Aubin, President & CEO. "We've done so well serving the community with our Canlan Ice Sports Romeoville facility; we felt it made good sense to complement this location by expansion allowing us to continue to provide the best sports and recreational experiences for the residents of the Chicagoland area."

The Lake Barrington Fieldhouse was constructed in 2008 and sits on a 10-acre site. The facility includes an 85,000 square foot full FIFA indoor 'field turf' field, lined for soccer, football, lacrosse and baseball and has a running/walking track around the perimeter of the field. The field has the flexibility to transition into two baseball infields or up to three separate turf fields. It can also accommodate indoor football, complete with end-zone goal posts. Two double gymnasiums with a total of 40,000 square feet of solid maple 'floating' floor accommodates four full sized basketball or eight volleyball courts. The facility also features a food and beverage concession, strength & conditioning area and retail/commercial tenant spaces.

"It will be business as usual for current customers, with an additional focus being undertaken by our marketing team to attract new customers in the surrounding areas," added Mr. St-Aubin. "With our planned expansion of offerings and best-in-class customer service and operational levels, we are confident this will be a thriving hub for customers wishing to enjoy best in class sports and recreational experiences."

Canlan plans to offer multiple recreational leagues, tournaments and programming including soccer, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, flag football, birthday parties, corporate team building events, as well as camps and instructional programs.
