Medigus Receives Patent For Microvisual Technology From Japan Patent Office

micro ScoutCam 1.2 receives patent protection for unique miniature size and high image resolution camera

OMER, Israel, Jan. 7, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Medigus Ltd. (TASE: MDGS), a medical device company developing minimally invasive endosurgical tools and a leader in direct visualization technology, announced today that it has been awarded Japanese patent number 5657673 for its miniature camera, the micro ScoutCam. The patent, entitled SMALL DIAMETER VIDEO CAMERA HEADS AND VISUALIZATION PROBES AND MEDICAL DEVICES CONTAINING THEM, was recorded December 5, 2014 and will be valid until September 16, 2030.

The application was filed for microvisualization technology that has a lens diameter of 1.4mm or less, and uses either CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) or CCD (charge coupled device) image sensors.  The micro ScoutCam has a 1.2mm lens diameter and uses CMOS-based lenses. This patent is the first received by Medigus for its micro camera technology, which has a lens diameter of 1.4mm or less.

"We are pleased with this newly granted patent for multiple claims, which is the first one for our microvisualization technology of such small diameter. We are committed to further developing the patent holdings over our proprietary technology, which we continually seek to enhance with the latest miniaturization and visualization advancements to deliver innovative new solutions for a broad scale of unmet needs in medical, industrial and other scientific applications", said Chris Rowland, Chief Executive Officer of Medigus.

Medigus has previously been awarded patents for its Intellectual Property, including for MUSE(TM), its medical device that incorporates a miniature camera to perform incisionless, endoscopic procedures within the GI tract, as well as other product designs incorporating micro ScoutCam products for integration into various devices in industrial and other medical applications.  Medigus has also filed to register this new patent for approval in the U.S., Europe, South Korea and Israel.
