Entropic and Wistron NeWeb Corporation Debut USB Powered DIRECTV-Ready TV Adapters

DIRECTV to Deploy a New Generation of Low Power, Small Form Factor MoCA Adapters for DIRECTV-Ready TVs

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CES 2015 -- Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, and Wistron NeWeb Corporation (WNC), an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of advanced wireless communications, announced a new USB Powered Ethernet to Coax Adapter is ready to launch at DIRECTV.

Entropic is leading the way in delivering the lowest power, highest performance, compact MoCA solutions. The Entropic based USB bridge from WNC provides all of the functionality of previous DIRECTV Ethernet to Coax Adapters in a small form factor. This new USB Powered adapter provides enough throughput to support Ultra HD/4K video and streaming media services to any DIRECTV-ready TV bringing the DIRECTV entertainment experience directly to any television without the need of a separate set-top box. A DIRECTV-ready TV has built in RVU technology and when combined with the USB MoCA Adapter, allows consumers to stream from the Genie server premium content and enjoy DVR functionality without the need for an additional box.

Using Entropic's EN2562, a fourth-generation MoCA 1.1 solution, the USB MoCA Adapter is small enough to sit behind the television. Since it is powered by the television's USB port, it eliminates the need for an external power supply and reduces the wires and clutter of a traditional set-top box, providing a more pleasing aesthetic to the home owner.

"As the industry evolves to 4K UHD it is essential to have key partners developing solutions together that allow further proliferation of DIRECTV-ready TVs in the market," said Henry Derovanessian, senior vice president of Consumer Premise Engineering, DIRECTV. "This latest USB MoCA Adapter from Entropic and WNC is a great example of an advanced solution that offers an easy and economical way to network DIRECTV-ready televisions in a home."

"Wistron NeWeb Corporation has a long history of working with Entropic to develop industry leading MoCA home entertainment networking solutions for DIRECTV," said Johnson Hsu, Vice President, Digital Home BU, WNC. "Our latest USB MoCA Adapter continues this tradition with a highly reliable, cost-effective solution for delivering next generation 4K content."

"The range of uses for MoCA continues to expand as service providers have come to trust its reliability and Quality-of-Service," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "With the rise of DIRECTV 4K Ready compliant televisions and increasing availability of 4K content, MoCA adapters such and this new USB powered DIRECTV-ready TV adapter  provides a cost-effective and reliable networking solution."

Availability

The new MoCA USB bus-powered adapter will be available from DIRECTV in mid-2015. The USB DECA will be demonstrated at CES 2015 in Entropic's Meeting Suite at The Wynn Las Vegas, Alsace Ballroom, from January 6 – January 9, 2015.
