USHCC Foundation Expands Signature Program to Diverse Chambers

WASHINGTON, Jan. 8, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation has announced that its signature educational program, the Chamber Training Institute (CTI), will be expanding to welcome members from other minority communities and diverse Chambers nationwide. The first expanded CTI training session will take place in Dallas, Texas on January 13 and 14, 2015 at AT &T corporate headquarters. The program will focus on"Coalition Building Across Diverse Chambers: Aligning Interests and Expanding Opportunity." On January 13, the USHCC will honor Mayor Rawlings with the "America's Business Champion" award, an accolade previously bestowed upon Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.

Fully funded by Wells Fargo, CTI is a free, two-day educational program facilitated by the University of Notre Dame that provides business leaders with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to support small business growth in the communities they serve.

"Thanks to our strategic partners at Wells Fargo, the USHCC foundation is proud to celebrate this monumental step in the growth of CTI. Few understand and appreciate the value and contributions of America's small business community better than Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and that is why we are immensely proud to present him with the USHCC's America's Business Champion award," said USHCC President & CEO Javier Palomarez. "We look forward to welcoming leaders from the U.S. Black Chamber, the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber, and the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce into the program that is helping create jobs, drive upward mobility, and pave the way toward a brighter, shared American future."

The Chamber Training Institute was developed in 2010 in partnership with the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business. Held every other month in 6 cities each year, Notre Dame creates and delivers unique curriculum based on the needs of business leaders for each session. Presenters include professors and industry experts that offer attendees tools to develop best practices for their local chambers and members.

"Over the last few years, our association has witnessed immense success from this impactful, educational program. By expanding further into our nation's diverse business community, the Chamber Training Institute will help foster alignment and collaboration among all minority groups united for the common cause of creating economic development, spurring job growth, and building more prosperous American enterprises," said USHCC Foundation Chairman Nina Vaca. "As a growing city where one in ten businesses is Hispanic-owned, and more than half of businesses in the area are minority- or women-owned, Dallas is the ideal location to launch our new, expanded and improved program."

Over 700 chamber leaders from across the country have participated in the program, returning to their communities to foster the growth and prosperity of their local business members. Participants who attend the program receive a certificate of completion from the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza School of Business.
