Adoption of a preliminary decision on the unbundling of the natural gas transmission activity and designation of a transmission system operator

On 13 January 2015, the National Control Commission for Prices and Energy (hereinafter – the Commission) issued a conclusion which states that the unbundling of the transmission activity of AB Amber Grid complies with the applicable provisions of the EU Third Energy Package and the Republic of Lithuania Law on Natural Gas and that AB Amber Grid is in a position to be designated as a natural gas transmission system operator.

The Commission will issue a notification of the decision to the European Commission and will submit supporting documents. Within two months of receipt of the opinion of the European Commission, the Commission will pass its final decision on the transmission system operator certification. Should the European Commission have any objections, in this case, upon the elimination of the shortcomings by the transmission system operator, the final decision would be taken no later than within two months.

When AB Amber Grid is designated as a transmission system operator, it will be granted an open ended license for the engagement in natural gas transmission activities.
