athenahealth and FCS Partner in Strategic Pilot Agreement to Streamline Administrative Work and Enhance Performance and Financial Results

WATERTOWN, Mass. and FORT MYERS, Fla., Jan. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- athenahealth, Inc. (Nasdaq:ATHN), a leading provider of cloud-based services and mobile applications for medical groups and health systems, and Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the largest independent privately-held medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States, today announced that FCS has selected athenaCollector® revenue cycle and practice management services as part of a pilot program which will be implemented in phases to support its team of 300 health care providers.

Recognized as the leading oncology practice in the state, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute delivers evidence-based oncology and hematology services, clinical research, and patient support services in more than 80 community-based facilities. In a phased approach, athenahealth will work with FCS to bring its health care providers live onto athenaNet®, athenahealth's cloud-based network.

"Our commitment at Florida Cancer Specialists is to provide the most advanced, compassionate cancer care," said Brad Prechtl, CEO, FCS. "A cloud-based service that enhances visibility and delivers financial results is central to our mission: to reduce administrative work and connect with what matters most—quality oncological care in a setting where patients can be close to home, surrounded by family and friends."

As part of the athenaCollector rollout, FCS' physicians will use athenaNet, a growing network of over 59,000 providers leveraging the deep payer knowledge of athenahealth's patented billing rules engine and back-office support to streamline workflows, track claims, prevent denials, and improve collections.

"This partnership brings together FCS' expertise in oncology reimbursement and athenahealth's in-depth technical expertise to create a synergy that will further enhance service levels to our patients. This allows them to focus on what matters most, getting better," said Sarah Cevallos, Vice President, Revenue Cycle of Florida Cancer Specialists.

"We are thrilled to connect Florida Cancer Specialists with our most trusted core product, which we believe continues to lead the industry in reducing work and improving financial results for health care organizations of all sizes," said Jonathan Bush, chairman and CEO, athenahealth. "athenaCollector was developed to leverage the power of the cloud, knowledge, and work for greater financial health. We look forward to providing FCS with the financial and service-oriented tools necessary to deliver high quality, effective oncological care."
