Social and Emotional Learning -- Online Training for Teachers

RedRover Readers program helps students develop critical thinking skills

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- RedRover©, a national nonprofit animal protection organization based in Sacramento, California, is offering an online training to elementary school teachers who want to foster empathy and compassion toward animals and help children develop critical thinking skills.

RedRover Readers is a social and emotional learning program that helps children develop positive relationship skills through stories and discussion. Participants in the RedRover Readers program read humane-themed books with strategic questions and discussions to help children develop critical thinking skills and empathy. The program aligns with academic content standards in both the United States and Canada.

RedRover, together with the Humane Society Academy, is offering a self-paced, collaborative, three-week online course to educators to learn to implement the program. Teachers will receive a free book for completing the course and four books once they have reported their classroom feedback. Each participant who completes this training will be eligible to participate in an upcoming RedRover Readers contest, with a $5,000 grand prize for the winning classroom.

"I had another great experience imparting the program in my school!" says Leticia Gomez, an elementary school teacher in South Texas. "Having the children engaged and hooked with the story was a wonderful experience too."
