Stowe, VT, Jan. 27, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As part of its ongoing community investment efforts, Inntopia joins other sponsors in supporting "An Evening with Christo" in the town of Stowe. International Artist Christo will speak at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, as part of the Vermont Town Hall speaker series, on Thursday, February 5, 2015. Tickets are available at http://sprucepeakarts.org/event/christo/ ;

This event will mark the one-year anniversary of the Vermont Town Hall, which features intriguing people in public conversations. Previous speakers include author and Gandhi Peace Prize winner Amy Goodman, environmentalist Bill McKibben, and icons of sustainable business Tom Chappell and Jeffrey Hollender.

Christo is best known for producing monumental temporary outdoor works of art. Christo and Jeanne-Claude (wife and artist collaborator, who passed away in 2009) are iconic for their large scale environmental artworks, including: Valley Curtain, Grand Hogback, Rifle, Colorado, 1970-72; Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, 1972-76; Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980-83; The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris, 1975-85; The Umbrellas, Japan-USA, 1984-91; Wrapped Reichstag, Berlin, 1971-95; and The Gates, Central Park, New York City, 1979-2005. The Gates attracted over 4 million viewers from around the world to Central Park in the sixteen days the work could be seen. Unrealized projects currently in development include Over the River, which would feature canopies of fabric suspended above a 5.9-mile stretch of the Arkansas River in Colorado and Mastaba, a structure of over 410,000 oil barrels, to be built at Al Gharbia, in the United Arab Emirates, 100 miles from the city of Abu Dhabi.

"An Evening with Christo" is being sponsored by Spruce Peak Arts Center Foundation, Helen Day Art Center, and Stowe Mountain Lodge, as well as Inntopia. Proceeds benefit the Vermont Town Hall series (Christo does not receive financial compensation from the sale of these tickets).

Inntopia, the travel industry's leading e-commerce and reservation platform, is a proud supporter of community events and charities, including The Chill Foundation, providing opportunities for at-risk youth to build self-esteem and life skills through board sports and Friends of Stowe Adaptive Sports, which works to improve the quality of life for persons living with a disability through access to winter sports and recreational activities.
