MOSCOW, Jan. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CTC Media (Nasdaq:CTCM), a leading Russian independent media company, today announced that CTC International, the company's international television channel, was recognized at Russia's annual "Big Digit Awards" for achievements in the field of digital television.
CTC International was recognized in the category of "Best Entertainment TV Channel" through an audience poll, receiving 48.4% of votes and beating ten other nominees.
The awards took place on January 28, 2015 on the sidelines of the CSTB Exhibition and Forum, a leading Russian electronic media event, in Moscow. The "Big Digit Awards," which are the first national awards for digital TV in Russia, recognize the adoption of new technology and content among digital television service providers.

The annual "Big Digit Awards" recognizes achievements in digital TV. The awards, which were held for the 6th consecutive year in 2015, have become a significant event for the television and telecommunications sectors in Russia. In 2014, a range of companies were nominated in three main categories, which included: Operators, Technology and Broadcast Infrastructure Developers, and TV channels. A total of 103 companies were nominated for awards this year.
The five-year existence of the awards confirms the significance and importance of digital TV sector development in Russia and the CIS. The awards bring together key industry players and are closely aligned with the goals of the Federal Program for Broadcast Development. The awards also facilitate the adoption of new technologies among TV network operators and other parties in the digital TV space.
