ATLANTA, Ga., Jan. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - This year, the Foundation for Financial Planning is celebrating 20 years of supporting the delivery of pro bono financial planning nationwide.
"We are proud of what we've accomplished in the last 20 years having provided more than 330,000 underserved people with pro bono financial planning. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than $5.7 million in grant funding to nonprofits in local communities; worked with over 10,500 professional volunteers to help deliver pro bono financial planning to the underserved; and has distributed over 50,000 pieces of free financial planning material.
The reason for deficient financial management has little to do with social economic status, but more to do with knowledge and an understanding of how to plan for the long-term. Financial planning impacts all segments of society and the Foundation provides grant funding to nonprofits to assist with meeting its mission of helping people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with people in need. The Foundation's reach is diverse and helps to provide financial planning to some of society's most vulnerable-- domestic abuse survivors, our military and their families, chronically ill patients and their families, first time homebuyers and many more. With generous gifts from over 14,000 industry professionals and numerous financial services companies, the Foundation has built an endowment of $20 million and has a five-year goal to raise an additional $5 million. A $25 million endowment will position the Foundation to provide up to $1 million of grants to nonprofit organizations annually. "We know our goals are ambitious and believe every person deserves an opportunity for a solid financial future; whether having funds saved to make a down payment on a first house or to bury a loved one; the ability to plan and prepare for the future is fundamental to maintaining a healthy and productive life," said Jim Peniston, executive director of the Foundation for Financial Planning.
