Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Investigates Claims Against Super Bowl Ticket Brokers

PHOENIX, Feb. 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attorney Advertising -- Keller Rohrback L.L.P. is investigating whether football fans who bought tickets to Super Bowl XLIX from ticket brokers who did not fulfill their orders may have claims against those brokers.

Numerous media outlets have reported stories of fans who bought their tickets to the game from a broker and travelled to Phoenix only to find that the broker did not have their tickets, leaving them without a seat to an event they had spent thousands of dollars to attend.

Those fans could have civil claims against the brokers. As Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich told ESPN, such a situation could be "a civil matter where there might be damages between the patron and person who sold them the tickets."

"For many football fans, a trip to Super Bowl XLIX was the trip of a lifetime. But the apparent failure of these ticket brokers to fulfill their promises left those fans with huge travel bills and nothing to show for it," said Gary Gotto, a partner of Keller Rohrback's nationally recognized Complex Litigation Group who has practiced in the Phoenix area since 1982.

ESPN's Darren Rovell explained how ticket brokers operate and what happened with this year's Super Bowl tickets:

"In most cases, those selling tickets never had them to begin with. The practice, called short selling, has become common for big games over the years. Brokers sell tickets and buy them cheaper closer to the event to make their profits. But the idea of selling before having anything in hand became more commonplace as the returns consistently came in for previous Super Bowls.

That was until this year, when too many brokers sold tickets they didn't have and for lower prices than in previous years, making it impossible to get the real ticket for a price that was affordable when it came time to pull the trigger. By last Sunday, brokers were buying the worst seats for $5,000 just to save their company. Five days later, finding a ticket even for $10,000 was a challenge."

People who bought tickets through a broker but did not have their orders fulfilled can contact Keller Rohrback if they would like the firm's attorneys to evaluate their potential claims.
