SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 4, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- According to an Overstock.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:OSTK) survey of over 800 consumers nationwide, this Valentine's, men are hoping for a romantic or sentimental gift, while women prefer something a little more practical. Survey results showed that men plan to spend nearly double what women plan to spend, mostly on traditional Valentine's Day gifts, such as cards, candy and flowers. According to the National Retail Federation, men will spend $190.53 while women will spend $96.58.

"Overstock's gift guide has a curated selection of top Valentine's Day gifts for him and her for all budgets," states Overstock.com President Stormy Simon. "If you need guidance or inspiration, our buyers meticulously put together the top items that will warm anyone's heart."

In the jewelry category, 56 percent of women surveyed prefer earrings, while 71 percent of men prefer a ring.

"Our Jewelry Liquidation Vault features jewelry of all styles and price points," added Simon. "Many are one-of-a-kind pieces; perfect for that special someone."

When asked about proposing marriage, 53 percent of respondents under the age of 45 stated they proposed on one knee. When segmenting out the Millennials (ages 18-30), 88 percent of respondents noted that they would prefer their fiancé to propose on one knee. Real-moment proposals, similar to the ones referenced in the survey, are the focus of Overstock.com's current Valentine's Day advertising campaign.
