STERLING, Va., Feb. 11, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Around the world, 165 million children are plagued by chronic lack of food and nutrition. More people are beginning to look at the complex relationship between small-scale agricultural production and food and nutrition security in poor rural settings. At the grassroots level, real-world solutions are demonstrating the true potential of innovation, particularly in the realm of agriculture.
To explore these possibilities, experts from around the globe will gather at the inaugural Harvest the Future International Symposium in Montego Bay, Jamaica on June 14-17, 2015. Representatives from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and Jamaican government ministers will work hand-in-hand with agriculture and nutrition experts to explore the power of innovative agricultural solutions, such as aquaponics, to tackle food security, corporate social responsibility, and climate change.
Hosted by INMED Partnerships for Children, the symposium will provide a unique forum to review and debate a variety of advancements and initiatives in small-scale agriculture aimed at food security, nutrition, climate change and poverty. The conference will provide a platform for sustainable development experts, policy makers, practitioners and private sector leaders to explore challenges and opportunities climate-smart agriculture offers to human well-being while protecting the environment.
