CLEVELAND, Feb. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Third Federal Savings & Loan is partnering with the City of Cleveland, Slavic Village Development, the Christian Business League, the Cleveland Realtist Association, and Harvard Title to offer a free homebuyer's workshop. This free workshop will focus on helping residents learn about:

  • Down payment assistance programs/affordable housing financing opportunities
  • Financial Management
  • Property Maintenance
  • Searching for qualified real estate and home-buying assistance professionals
  • Latest Housing Laws

On the heels of the Earned Income Tax Credit event held earlier in February, residents who qualified for a tax credit can learn how they might use the credit towards the purchase of a home. The event includes a homebuyer's education booklet, continental breakfast, lunch and door prizes. A tour of new model homes will take place from 1-2 p.m.

Those interested in attending should register by calling
Third Federal's homebuyer's registration line at (216) 441-7345.

When citing the importance of consumers to look for credible sources for home buying information, Maria Thompson, community development services manager at Third Federal, said, "There are many sources today for homebuyer education, but not all information is good information."

"This neighborhood-based workshop, and others like it, provides consumers with vital information needed to navigate the complicated process of home buying and homeownership," added Daryl Rush, Director of Community Development for the City of Cleveland. "Further, these types of partnerships help showcase the revitalization and unique housing opportunities of neighborhoods like Slavic Village."
