Government of Canada Tables Supplementary Estimates (C), 2014-2015

Today, the President of the Treasury Board of Canada, Tony Clement, tabled the Supplementary Estimates (C), 2014-2015 in the House of Commons.

The Supplementary Estimates (C), 2014-2015 provide information to support the Government's request for Parliament to approve $1.78 billion in voted appropriations for 41 federal organizations.

So far this fiscal year, government spending presented in voted budgetary estimates through the Main Estimates and Supplementary Estimates (A), (B), and (C), total $93.4 billion. This continues a four-year decline in spending.

  • Supplementary Estimates present information to Parliament on the Government of Canada's spending requirements that were either not sufficiently developed in time to be included in the Main Estimates, or have been refined to account for new developments in programs or services.
  • The Supplementary Estimates (C) voted appropriations include the following items:
  • Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada requests spending authority up to $126 million for the extension of the Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force and the Global Peace and Security Fund. These provide support for international crisis response and ensuring stability and security around the world.
  • Indian Affairs and Northern Development Canada present requirements for up to $69.1 million for on-reserve emergency management. This will allow the department to respond to urgent health and safety issues.
  • Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada requests spending authority up to $52 million to continue to combat Ebola and $36.7 million to support the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
  • As announced in Budget 2014, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the Public Health Agency of Canada present requirements of $33.4 million to minimize the effect of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy.
