Minister MacKay Attends Global Law Summit in UK


LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Feb. 23, 2015) - Department of Justice Canada

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Peter MacKay today began a three-day working visit to the United Kingdom, where he will attend the Global Law Summit, take part in discussions and bilateral meetings, and meet with Canadian law students at the University of Leicester Law School.

Minister MacKay will be a delegate to the Global Law Summit and will meet with legal professionals and business and government representatives to affirm the Government of Canada's conviction that the use of sound legal systems and the rule of law promotes stability and helps combat global terrorism. Minister MacKay will have the opportunity to meet with senior officials from private practice, academia, justice systems and the judiciaries from around the world.

Speaking to students at the University of Leicester Law School, including more than 200 Canadian students, Minister MacKay will offer his thoughts on the importance of Canada's legal system, his passion for the law, and his perspective on the historical importance of Canadians studying abroad as a way to build bilateral understanding of legal systems and cultures. At Leicester, he will have the honour of announcing a prize to be awarded to the Canadian law students' moot court competition.
