ALBANY, N.Y., Feb. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CDPHP and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York are thrilled to announce a record-breaking total for the 2014 CDPHP Holiday Appeal. Dozens of individuals, businesses and organizations helped raise $34,706 to feed hundreds of local schoolchildren. This tops the previous record, set in 2012, by more than $600.
All of the funds go to the Regional Food Bank's BackPack Program, which provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods to children in need in grades K-6. Each Friday, these students receive a backpack filled with food to take home over the weekend. The program continues to grow each year, and currently serves nearly 1,900 children across 14 counties.

During the 14th annual appeal, CDPHP encouraged individuals, organizations, and businesses to donate to the Regional Food Bank during the month of December. CDPHP matched donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000.
