WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via PRWEB - DuPont today announced that Chair and Chief Executive Officer Ellen Kullman has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). Kullman was elected "for leadership in the business growth and transformation of a global science and engineering company."
Election to the National Academy of Engineering stands among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education," and to the "pioneering of new and developing fields of technology."

I also have drawn constantly on my own engineering background as a leader," said Kullman. "For these reasons and others, I am deeply honored to be elected by the Academy."
Only one other current DuPont employee is a member of the Academy: DuPont Fellow and Lavoisier medalist Charles J. Noelke, who was elected in 2009 for his distinguished work on the DuPont team that developed and commercialized the replacement process technology for chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) in refrigerants.
Kullman joins former DuPont CEOs Charles O. Holliday and Edgar S. Woolard Jr., who were elected to the Academy in 2004 and 1992, respectively. Former Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Uma Chowdhry is also a member, elected in 1996.
Ellen Kullman is the 19th executive to lead the company in its 212 year history. Kullman joined DuPont in 1988 serving in various marketing, sales and business leadership roles. She has also worked for General Electric and Westinghouse. She graduated from Tufts University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and the Kellogg School at Northwestern University with a master's in business management.
She is a member of the board of directors for United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Catalyst– the leading nonprofit membership organization expanding opportunities for women and business and Change the Equation – a CEO-led nonprofit initiative that is mobilizing the business community to improve the quality of STEM learning in the United States. She is a member of The Business Council, The Business Roundtable, United States Council for International Business, U.S.-China Business Council, and Society for Women Engineers.
