Scott+Scott, Attorneys at Law, LLP Has Filed an Action Relating to Kmart Data Breach

NEW YORK, March 2, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Scott+Scott, Attorneys at Law, LLP has filed an action in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Kmart Corp. ("Kmart") and its parent company, Sears Holdings Corporation ("Sears"), for injuries banks and other financial institutions suffered as a result of a data breach that occurred in September 2014.

According to the plaintiff, Kmart allowed its customers' credit and debit card information to be compromised when it failed to employ adequate security measures and negligently relied on outdated anti-virus technology, which allowed hackers to breach Kmart's point-of-sale payment systems. The lawsuit seeks to recover damages that financial institutions have incurred and will continue to incur as a result of this data breach, such as costs associated with cancelling and reissuing thousands of credit and/or debit cards, reimbursing customers for fraudulent charges, and voiding deposits and transactions and closing checking or other accounts affected by the breach.
