New Mom's Choice Awards(R) Gold Recipient "Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie" Tells the True Story of Unconditional Love for a Rescued Furry Friend

DALLAS, March 3, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Winner of the prestigious Mom's Choice Awards® gold medal, author Linda Greiner brings to life the true story of Sashi the Shetland "Sheltie" Sheepdog. In her award-winning debut book, Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie (Brown Books Kids), accompanied by the beautiful illustrations of Morgan Spicer, Greiner introduces children and adults to Sashi, the misunderstood Sheltie. Sashi does what she was born to do—chase everything that moves. Not wanting her any longer, Sashi's owners send her to a shelter, where Sashi is scared and doesn't understand why she no longer has a home.

Kirkus Reviews praises Greiner's ability to share Sashi's journey with children of all ages: "Based on a true story, this picture book has a lot of kid appeal, and the illustrations are delightfully child-friendly. A sweet success story about transforming a scared, neglected pup into a champion."

The book shares the real-life story of Sashi being rescued by Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey and her journey to find her "forever home." Dorothy Christiansen, director of the National Sheltie Rescue Network, says, "This is a delightful book about a Sheltie given a second chance at a happy life through Sheltie Rescue. I highly recommend it for a child's library of favorite books."

Through Greiner's charming story, Sashi's new owners, a mommy and her little girl, Anna, show parents and children how Anna and her mom lovingly train Sashi to overcome her fears and learn to "sit and check it out." Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie reminds readers of the importance of pet rescue and the beautiful friendship a pet owner can have with a properly trained dog.

Greiner fell in love with Shelties while researching what kind of dog she should get for her sixteenth birthday. Many years later, she decided to adopt a Sheltie instead of buying one from a breeder.  "Sashi was my first experience with a severely traumatized dog. With love and patience, positive reinforcement training, and the Rescue's support, we were able to overcome Sashi's problem behaviors," explained Greiner. She is committed to helping other Shelties find their forever homes and has pledged to give a portion of the sales proceeds from Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie to the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey. Books are available online and in bookstores.
