WALTHAM, Mass., March 4, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PatientKeeper,® Inc., a leading provider of healthcare applications for physicians, today announced that 98 percent of all orders and physician notes are being entered electronically at its customer, Community Memorial Health System (CMHS) in Ventura County, California, as a result of widespread adoption of PatientKeeper CPOE™ and PatientKeeper NoteWriter™.

The success of PatientKeeper has given the hospital a competitive advantage in attracting physicians to practice there.

"Our physicians are delighted with the ease of use of the PatientKeeper applications," Stanley Frochtzwajg, M.D., CMHS's Chief Medical Officer, said. "They are able to see consults, orders and other documents immediately – and everything is legible. Just as important, our nurses and pharmacists are thrilled to have instant access to these items."

For some physicians who also practice at other nearby hospitals, the contrast between CMHS's PatientKeeper system and the EHR they use elsewhere is especially stark. "I've had physicians seek me out specifically to tell me how much they prefer our EHR," Dr. Frochtzwajg said. "Most doctors can get up and running on PatientKeeper in 30 minutes."

At CMHS, PatientKeeper is an overlay on top of the hospital's MEDITECH Client/Server 5.6.6 system. PatientKeeper provides physicians an electronic work environment that is easy for them to use and fully integrated with the MEDITECH system-of-record. PatientKeeper is used by physicians to access clinical results from CMHS's MEDITECH, PACS and EKG systems through PatientKeeper's Web-based portal, as well as on smartphones and tablets. PatientKeeper also is integrated with Data Express and Forward Advantage. In addition, CMHS's HIE can be launched directly from PatientKeeper.

"The fact that PatientKeeper leverages our existing IT investment is critical," Ronald Sandifer, CMHS's Chief Information Officer, said. "Because PatientKeeper is integrated with MEDITECH and our other clinical systems, it gives physicians a single place to go to access and act on all their patient information."

CMHS was established in 2005 when Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura merged with Ojai Valley Community Hospital. The system is comprised of these two hospitals (with a combined total of 350 beds), more than 500 clinical staff, and 13 family-practice health centers serving various communities within Ventura County with a total population of approximately 836,000.
