Caverion provides a total technical solution worth over EUR 8 million for a new school building in Østfold, Norway

Caverion has signed a contract with the general contractor Kruse Smith AS to install all building systems for the new Rygge Ungdomsskole Middle School in Østfold, Norway. The delivery includes heating and sanitation, ventilation and air conditioning, electricity, information and communication, security and safety, and automation systems. In addition to project execution, Caverion is responsible for the project management. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 8.8 million.

With the total area of 11,000 m2, the new school building will accommodate 720 students and include a multipurpose hall and a public library. The property and its technical systems are designed to consider the entire life cycle of the property.

”The goal is not to build a school with the lowest construction cost, but to build a school that incurs the lowest possible costs throughout its life cycle, including the operation and maintenance phase. The building should also maintain its aesthetic and functional qualities over time, and at the same time be flexible to adapt to changes,” emphasises Stein Stavdal Paulsen, Project Manager from Rygge Municipality.

The property will be built as a passive house, which will provide significant cost savings over the life cycle by consuming very little purchased energy. The school will, among others, be heated with heat pumps from bore wells.

The project will be carried out as a partnership contract with elements of the public-private partnership (PPP) model. It is funded and operated in cooperation with the public sector client Rygge Municipality, the general contractor Kruse Smith AS, and the architect Asplan Viak.

Caverion’s work will start in March 2015 and it will be completed in December 2016.
